Understanding the Risks of Pollution & Contamination
Nothing in this world happens in a vacuum. So you have decided to go out and “live off of the land” for a weekend, or you head off on a hike and want to ply your new skills of foraging, worse yet, you listened to the salesperson at the local hunting / outdoors store and decided to “go light” and source your water along the trail. Well, if you go ahead without a solid basis in scientific knowledge and skills you could alter your health and life permanently in moments. You may not even know that you have done so for years. The damage could be slow or fast, but often there is no smoking gun to point at, you just get sick, very sick.

Of course, we will all die from something but there is no reason to run out in rush hour traffic either. We know that will kill us. Laziness, indifference and apathy can kill you. Whether it is refusal or failure to protect from ticks that you know are ubiquitous or eating wild edibles from the roadside, these are things that we know pose serious risks to your health, so why not take a little effort now to avoid lots of suffering later.

Understanding the risk factors, the indicators and how to limit impact is the key to our survival.
