Blizzards & Drifting
Blizzards, which are defined differently depending upon where you are in the USA or world, sweep in, often exceeding the meteorolgical predictions. They dump thousands of cubic feet of snow on areas in short periods of time.

Unlike its cousin; rain, snow brings a few extra tricks. Of course everyone knows that it makes travelling trecherous and sometimes impassable. But the underlying issues are far more dangerous.

Snow load is a major threat. The weight of the snow increases as the snow melts often trapped under the snow causing roofs and structures to collapse.
Ice Jams
Construction disasters, massive highway accidents, pipeline accidents, runaway trains, industrial accidents, human stampedes, and more occur every single day. Most of the disasters could have been averted. But for those caught unexpectedly in the aftermath suffer and even die. If you are properly prepared both mentally and physically you are more likely to either avoid it or survive and even help others too.
Ice Storms
The South Eastern USA  is very familiar with Ice Storms. Over the past few years and cyclically over the past 100, other areas, even some areas in the tropical zone have experienced Ice Storms.
