Fire is a basic life giving element of your survival. You need to learn how to make fire in multiple ways. Matches and lighters are not even a consideration in the real picture. You need to learn and practice fire starting techniques.
 
Fire Starting requires an ignition source, fuel, and oxygen. Oxygen is everywhere (thank goodness). You need to learn how to prepare your wood, or other fuel for building a good fire.
