Will presented a clear perspective on
Brussels Terror Attack
Analysis of Issues and Root Causes
and
Civilian
Preparedness & Survivalism
vs.
Paramilitary Style
Survivalism

The terror attacks occurred in Brussels, Belgium the morning of this show. The multiple bomb attacks; claimed by ISIS, sparked some commentary regarding the causations and potential solutions that most pundits never talk about. See the articles that I posted on the SurvivalSitreps.com site.

The remainder of the show approaches a common challenge in the conversation about determining the "proper approach" to preparedness and survival; the difference between preparedness, survivalism and paramilitary style survivalism.

I am a strong believer in my rule; "if you only surround yourself with those who agree with you, soon enough you will all be wrong". I am always open to constructive critique and more over thoughtful alternative perspectives. Having the opportunity to hear those differing or dissenting points of view help broaden my perspective and help us all to strengthen our skills and knowledge while hardening our facts and research.

Two days prior to this show, I received a scathing email from an anonymous sender. He told me how my approach to balanced, every day survivalism and preparedness was “stupid and misguided”. He went on to pontificate about how he and his “group” travel into the “mountains” and practice “tactical operations”. He continued with one of my favorite rants, “we all have guns, and when anything happens, we will just shoot people and stack them in the backyard”. The commentary was rife with expletives an diminutives berating me about how I need to be “ready to kill” not sit around the campfire weaving baskets. I read the email, read it again and I guess it was burning in my mind when I did this show. I apologize if I was not nice about it but it really irks me.

I, and other well trained and skilled people dedicate their time, effort and experience to help others grow and learn. Reasoned and respectful dissent or opposition is fine. Disrespectful arrogance will bring out the warrior in me. I do not apologize for being resolute.

Realistically, having a team with highly trained, seasoned and skilled tactical operators as part of an overall preparedness and survival team is optimum. Unfortunately, the void between the two sides in nomenclature, perspective and motivation is normally so vast that such a paring is nearly impossible.

To be clear it is not about right and wrong, simply a matter of the point of reference, application and situational need. The average civilian would have to quit their job and dedicate their full time to ramping up their physical and mental skills to reach the level of tactical and operational skills that would be required to reach basic proficiency. That will never happen due to physical limitations and the realities of  life's daily demands.

Since the vast majority of challenges and threats to our survival in the homeland come in the form of natural and manmade disasters during which time WROL is at worst constrained to a few days and the threat of prosecution for actions (even when justified are extremely high when the dust clears) it is our approach to cover the vast number of necessary skills, gear and mindset that are necessary every day in the civilian world, in the USA and most areas abroad.

During the past two days I have had several encounters with people who run what they called tactical training camps (government agencies would refer to them as paramilitary groups). After the discussions it became clear that they were basically playing “army men”. The threat that is borne out of such behavior is unwanted attention from government agencies. In addition, the people involved often develop attitudes where they believe that the are "above the law" typically causing them to be arrested or worse. The worst part is that those lost and looking for a "direction" are incidentally swept up in the mess.

I have both worked with and am friends with, several very skilled and experienced operators. They are licensed range masters, highly trained and skilled in tactical maneuvers, extremely detailed and precise about their training programs and their work. Some are even seasoned military contractors. They train law enforcement and private security operators with wonderful results. They are professionals.

The average person would not even be qualifying physically let alone mentally for that work. That said, most people want to be prepared and to build mind sets and skills to survive a hurricane, grid down, etc. Those problems present themselves every day and that is the point.

The safe choice for the average civilian is self-sufficiency and general preparedness. Start small and build up. You will be surprised that in no time you will have made dramatic leaps in preparedness.

History, in the aftermath of disasters and war abroad, prove out that a self-sufficient and skilled populace lightens the burden, demand, and need for government and others. In the worst case scenario, such as WROL a strong, skilled populace will provide what is necessary for the creating or rebuilding of a civil society.
